treeTime Readme File

treeTime is the perfect companion for anyone who needs to record their time to whatever level of detail may be required. Data is exported to CSV files for processing in Excel or other desktop applications.

Support for treeTime is provided by email

Changes at 1.1

treeTime 1.1 uses an XML data store to save task and time data. This has resulted in a significantly simpler and smaller install file, and removed the need to install SQLCE database server on your PocketPC. This has in turn greatly reduced the size of the data storage area. When treeTime 1.1 is first started, it will convert any existing SQLCE databases over to the new format.

Installation

treeTime should be installed by clicking on the treeTimeSetup.exe file that was downlaoded when you trialled or purchased the product. If treeTime fails to run, you may need to install the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework to your PocketPC. A copy of this file may be obtained from the Microsoft website, or by contacting us using the support email above.

1. Adding Tasks

The treeTime screen contains a treeView that shows all the top-level tasks you are working on. This may be organised by customer, by project, or in whatever manner suits the way you work.

To add a new task, either tap and hold an existing task, or use the tree menu at the bottom of the page, and select “Add Sibling” or “Add Child”. The new task will either be added as a child of the current task, or as another entry at the same level as the selected task.

A description for the task is added, and the OK (tick) button or Cancel (cross) button is pressed.

New tasks may be added to any level within your hierarchy.

2. Editing Tasks

An existing task may be edited or deleted by tapping and holding the task, or through the tree menu. Select “Edit Task” and enter a new description for the task.

3. Deleting Tasks

To delete a task, either tap and hold a task in the treeView, or use the tree menu, then select “Delete Task”. If the task contains sub-items or time events, a submenu is shown allowing the sub items to be deleted along with the parent task, or to be promoted to the level of the parent.

4. Timing Events

The key to treeTime is the ability to time events. To begin timing a task, select the task by tapping it once on the screen. Then use the Start button at the top of the screen to begin timing. The selected task is shown, along with current elapsed time.

While an event is being timed, you are free to perform any other functions within treeTime, including navigating to other items in the tree. An additional locate button also appears to the right of the timed description, which will automatically navigate back to the currently timed event in the treeview when pressed.

To finish timing an event, hit the Start/Stop button again.

5. Moving Tasks or Events

Existing tasks or events may be moved by tapping and holding the task, or through the tree menu. Select Move Item> Pickup Item from the menu. The item that has been picked up appears with a small arrow beside it.

To drop the item, navigate to a new task, then select Move Item>Drop to drop the item as a child or sibling of the new task.

6. Editing Existing Events

Existing timed events can also be edited, with changes made to the start date, start time or duration of the event. Events are edited by tapping and holding on an event or through the tree menu, then selecting Edit Item.

When editing events, use the dropdown arrows beside the date or time to pop up a helper window. When editing times, clicking on a part of the time (hour, minute, second) will allow edit of that portion of the time.

7. Adding Manual Events

New events can be added without using the Start/Stop button by selecting a task, then tapping and holding the task or using the tree menu, and selecting “Add Time”. The new event is edited in the same way as existing events.

8. Saving events to CSV

To export the data for transferring to your desktop PC or other system, select File>Save off the menu. A file is created in you’re my Documents folder on your PocketPC. This file can be transferred to your desktop PC using ActiveSync, and used for the generation of customer accounts, timesheets, etc.

9. Resetting your Tasks

The contents of your tree may be cleared using the File>Clear options. Clear Times will remove all timing events, but leave your existing task structure in place. Clear All removes all times and tasks.

It is strongly advised that you save your data prior to clearing the tree, as once removed the data can not be recovered.
